Description

This artwork by fine jewellery designer and artist Aamina Juma, subverts our natural perceptions of jewellery. Precious metals and gemstones, traditionally denoting wealth, give way to wool, challenging our assessment of worth.

Through her dramatic manipulations of material and
proportion in her playful and joyful works, Aamina invites us to reassess the role of jewellery and how we determine its value.

White South Sea Cultured Pearl Stud Earrings, made
using tufted New Zealand wool play with a surreal proportion and material of a timeless classic – pearl studs: supposedly crafted in 18k white gold and set with white 7.5-8 mm South Sea cultured pearls.

To continue with her real / surreal approach, these pearl studs sculpture comes with its removable butterfly backs, and as each pearl is naturally unique - apparently, each sculpture from this edition may differ slightly from the images shown, based on how the pearls capture the light on the day you wear them or put them on display.

About The Designer

Aamina Juma

Aamina’s collection subverts our natural perceptions of jewellery. Precious metals and gemstones, traditionally denoting wealth, give way to wool, challenging our assessment of worth. Instead of the delicacy and sophistication of fine jewellery, Aamina employs a scale that takes her work into a playful, whimsical realm. Through her dramatic manipulations of material and proportion, Aamina invites us to reassess the role of jewellery and how we determine its value.
