Breakthrough Duo is a handcrafted porcelain bowl from Moments of Joy, a celebrated body of work by British ceramic artist Nicky Backlund. Blending contemporary ceramic art with functional design, this sculptural piece captures a fleeting moment of wonder and playfulness.

Featuring a softly contoured organic form finished in a pristine white glaze, the bowl depicts two playful ducks diving beneath the surface of a cobalt-blue pond. Nicky graduated at Central Saint Martins in 2024 and is continuing with an MA in Design.

This collection, Moments of Joy, evolved significantly through her research and making. The aim, to evoke a sense of joy from the viewer. To encourage reflection, as well as highlight the importance of time. Giving ourselves time to stop, reflect and most of all enjoy moments of joy.

Each piece is meticulously crafted in the UK using traditional ceramic techniques. Backlund’s signature approach combines minimalist forms with emotive, narrative elements—resulting in ceramics that feel both intimate and conceptually refined.
