Broken Things (Mixed Media, Collage)
A diversity of ceramic objects is photographed in a studio-like setting. The physical photographic image is torn then put back together by a delicate stitching in gold thread making reference to the Japanese technique of kintsugi or golden repair: an ancient technique for restoring ceramic objects by the use of lacquer and gold to replace those parts of the object that were missing or broken. It is an approach to restoration and preservation that mends without disguising the history of the object.

About The Designer
About The Designer
LIVIA MARIN
Livia Marin is a visual artist whose work has been characterised throughout by large-scale installations and the appropriation of mass-produced and mass-consumed objects. She employs everyday objects to enquire into the nature of how we relate to material objects.
Her work seeks to offer a reflection on the relationship we develop with those often unseen objects that meet our daily needs. Central to the work is a trope of estrangement that works to reverse an excess of familiarity that commands the life of the everyday and the dictates of the marketplace.
