Description

Casablanca Skeleton by Una Lo

Many might hesitate to discuss death. Skulls and skeletons often symbolise death and danger. However, just as people easily admire the beauty of fragile flowers, why not death?

The skull represents the universal nature of death, while the delicate flower signifies life's fleeting beauty. This symbolism serves as a conduit, encouraging audiences to view death not as an end but as an integral part of existence.

Casablanca Skeleton symbolises the delicate balance between life's fragility and the enduring nature of memory. It was crafted not merely as an ornament but as a vessel for narrative, inviting audiences to engage with life and death, and everything in between.

Life and death are inseparable—this is part of nature.

This small sculpture that can be displayed as a centrepiece on a desk or side table, as well as placed on the wall of the homes of the art collectors fascinated by mystery and the darker side of things.

About The Designer

Una Lo is a skull-lover, jeweller, and sustainable fashion designer whose work explores themes of death, remembrance, and emotional connection. Her jewellery challenges conventional perceptions by reimagining death as a space for reflection rather than fear. Through her practice, Una crafts objects that serve as vessels of memory—offering comfort in mourning and encouraging viewers to embrace life with gratitude and intentionality.

She graduated with Distinction from the MA Jewellery and Metalwork at Sheffield Hallam University. Her project, Immortality Within Mortality, exemplified this vision and was recognised with the Sheffield Assay Office Silver Bursary and the Sheffield Assay Masters Recognition Award – Highly Commended (2024). A central piece from the project was later acquired for the Sheffield Assay Master Collection.

Since then, Una has exhibited widely, including at Goldsmiths’ Hall, the Millennium Gallery, Sunny Bank Mills, and New Designers 2024, where she was shortlisted for the Goldsmiths’ Centre Award. Most recently, she received a Silver Award in Conceptual Jewellery at the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards 2025.
