Klinta Locmele's Leftovers turns an everyday coffee ritual into a witty exercise in perception. At first glance, these porcelain cups and saucers appear to carry the unmistakable traces of a previous drink — coffee rings, dregs, spills and lipstick marks left around the rim. Look closer, however, and the mess is permanently embedded into the porcelain.

Created as a playful trompe-l'œil, the series deliberately blurs the boundary between clean and dirty, new and used, functional object and artwork. The illusion invites you to question what you are seeing: Has this cup already been used? Is it dirty? Should it be sent back?

The stains cannot be washed away — the dirt is part of the design.

Klinta Locmele is a Latvian designer based in London whose practice reimagines familiar objects through distortion, humour and unexpected material interventions. Drawing on fragments of her upbringing and a research-driven approach, she challenges conventional ideas of function, form and perception. Her unconventional creations occupy the space between the everyday and the otherworldly, transforming recognisable objects into intriguing contemporary design pieces.
