The Engagement Ring by Aamina Juma

The ‘platinum’ solitaire engagement ring, part of British
artist Aamina Juma’s High Jewellery Collection of sculptures, is made using tufted New Zealand wool, and plays with a surreal proportion and materials reinventing a timeless jewellery piece – the engagement ring. Supposedly set in ‘platinum’, this engagement ring features a ‘4.02 carats round brilliant cut diamond’ in a four-claw setting. The artist blends masterfully different shades of grey, achieving a trompe l'oeil effect to allow volume and the light that reflects the brilliance of its cut diamond.

 The stunning diamond solitaire sculpture may differ slightly from the images shown, based on how the precious diamond catches the light on the day you "wear" it or put this sculpture on display.

This is a piece for contemporary art collectors, the ones who dare to go beyond the conventional and break establishment’s rules when building their art collections.

Aamina Juma

British designer andartist Aamina Juma graduated from London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art.

Her collection subverts our natural perceptions of jewellery. Precious metals and gemstones, traditionally denoting wealth, give way to wool, challenging our assessment of worth. Instead of the delicacy and sophistication of fine jewellery, Aamina employs a scale that takes her work into a playful, whimsical realm.

Through her dramatic manipulations of material and proportion, the designer invites us to reassess the role of jewellery and how we determine its value.
