Inflated Large Lime Bike by Maxim Lester

Inflated Large Lime Bike by Maxim Lester

The solution or the problem?... Created by British designer Maxim Lester, originating from a 3D scan of a lime bike, the creator adds to the debate on Lime bikes being useful for some, as well as an obstacle for others, and a symbol of capitalist creep on our public space.

By abstracting, scaling and inflating the iconic bike beyond its function, with this sculpture the designer brings a new perspective on the narrative of an otherwise everyday product.

Description

Lime bikes are useful for some, an obstacle for others, and a symbol of capitalist creep on our public space. Created by British designer Maxim Lester, and originating from a 3D scan of a lime bike parked in Hammersmith, London, these forms are an exploration of a contentious product as a signifier alone, abstracting, scaling and inflating them beyond their function.

This work invites interpretation. It questions whether shared mobility solutions are liberating conveniences or intrusive symbols of commercialisation in public environments. By removing function and amplifying form, the sculpture turns a utilitarian object into a conversation piece about modern city life, design ethics, and visual culture. A sculpture that shifts perception—turning the everyday into something uncanny, tactile, and open to debate.
