Description
Description
Referencing Japanese, Chinese and Korean traditions of rock appreciation known as suiseki, scholars rocks or viewing stones this hand extruded blob of polypropylene has been treated to a hand carved base or ‘daiza’ made from black walnut.
As an irreverent and humorous transformation three light fittings are sunk into the blob, a custom made push switch made from polished aluminium finishes the piece off.

About The Designer
About The Designer
James Shaw is a London based designer who creates objects and furniture. His work aims to bring out the inherent beauty of diverse materials, often uniting or contrasting handmade and tactile qualities with the structured and systematised. Frequently his work considers the resources around us, challenging the notions of “waste” and "value".
He is probably best known for his work with recycled plastics, and his self-built extruding gun, which produces blobby, gloopy and baroque forms, creating objects of unexpected beauty from a problematic material.
