About The Designer
About The Designer
Maison Martin Margiela – Renamed today as “Maison Margiela’ is a design house founded by Belgium designer Martin Margiela in 1988. From its debut, the house broke all rules imposed at the time by the fashion establishment with ideas of nonconformity and subversion of norms, delivering instead newness coming from uncompromised creativity invigorated by authenticity, radicalness and self-expression.
While working on an interior architecture project in 1998, Martin Margiela was inspired to create a collection of “White Objects” that could be displayed alongside his work. The colour white is synonymous with Martin Margiela, a symbol of uniformity, purity, and modernity - a white canvas and the starting point to create anything.
A collection of Objects and Publications first appeared in 1999, Maison Martin Margiela Line 13, when Martin Margiela was still the brand’s creative director.
This line is no longer produced.
