Description
Is there anything better than a good dessert or an ice cream cone on a summer day?... A celebration of indulgence, nostalgia and exquisite craftsmanship, Pistachio Blackcurrant KitKat Cup Cone perfectly captures Anna Barlow's playful exploration of our emotional relationship with food. Inspired from the rituals of desserts, celebrations and guilty pleasures, Barlow transforms familiar sweet treats into luxurious ceramic sculptures that delight the senses while challenging perceptions of value, consumption and desire.
Handcrafted in Parian porcelain, porcelain and earthenware clay, the sculpture layers whipped cream, meringues, confectionery, a striped candy cane and a blackcurrant -white chocolate wafer segment from a Kit Kat into an exuberant tower of imagined flavour. Rich blackcurrant glaze cascades over the cone, punctuated by pistachio green highlights and finished with delicate pastel accents in lilac, orange, yellow and beige. The remarkable realism of each element creates what the artist describes as a sense of "visual edibility"—inviting viewers to imagine not only the taste and texture of the work but also the memories and emotions associated with indulgent treats.
Anna Barlow's sculptures explore the fleeting nature of pleasure and celebration. By immortalising melting ice creams, dripping glazes and decadent desserts in ceramic, she transforms temporary moments of indulgence into enduring works of contemporary art. Her distinctive practice blurs the boundaries between fine art, craft and popular culture, resulting in sculptures that are simultaneously joyful, technically accomplished and conceptually rich.
With its vibrant palette of red, pistachio green, off-white, lilac, beige, orange and yellow, Pistachio Blackcurrant KitKat Cup Cone makes a striking statement in both contemporary interiors and established collections. Every detail is individually hand-modelled and glazed, demonstrating Barlow's exceptional command of ceramic techniques and her internationally recognised artistic voice.
Ideal for collectors of contemporary ceramics, food-inspired sculpture and British studio ceramics, this original artwork embodies Anna Barlow's unique ability to transform the everyday into the extraordinary.

About The Designer
About The Designer
Anna Barlow is a ceramicist born in Bristol and currently living and working in London. She holds a BA (Hons) in Ceramics from Bath Spa University College and has exhibited her work in galleries internationally.
Her practice is rooted in a fascination with the way we eat food and the rituals that surround celebration, indulgence, and shared experience. She is particularly drawn to how food can quietly tell stories of people, place, and fleeting moments — a full stand of ice creams might suggest a hot summer’s day, communal joy, or treats mysteriously abandoned. These subtle narratives, often overlooked, form the starting point for her work.
Ice cream has become a central focus within her practice due to its transitory nature. Melting, oozing, and collapsing, it embodies a brief yet memorable experience that many people instantly recognise. Through clay, porcelain, and glaze, Barlow captures these temporary states and freezes them in time, transforming ephemerality into permanence. Her work aims to evoke memories of taste and sensation, while also prompting fantasies of indulgence and desire.
Material exploration sits at the heart of her process. Inspired first by the inherent qualities of clay and glaze, she combines surface, texture, and form to create a sense of “visual edibility,” leaving the imagined taste of the work open to the viewer. Following an initial year of focused research into glaze, materials, and texture, she continues to explore new ways of capturing the fleeting beauty and transitory nature of food.
