Description
Description
Soft Toys by Livia Marin.
This series is formed by many second-hand cuddly toys that had been collected from various charity shops and flea markets in Europe and South America. The objects are covered with multiple layers of plaster and gesso and finally covered with a thin layer of gold. The technique of gilding or gold leaf is delicate, requiring time and dedication to prepare the surface where the gold leaf is applied. In this process the soft toys lose their definition and softness, but not their presence.

About The Designer
About The Designer
LIVIA MARIN
Livia Marin is a visual artist whose work has been characterised throughout by large-scale installations and the appropriation of mass-produced and mass-consumed objects. She employs everyday objects to enquire into the nature of how we relate to material objects.
Her work seeks to offer a reflection on the relationship we develop with those often unseen objects that meet our daily needs. Central to the work is a trope of estrangement that works to reverse an excess of familiarity that commands the life of the everyday and the dictates of the marketplace.
